The problem with SQL after migrating the database to another machine

$

Having an odd SQL problem attempting to get a database moved from one machine to another.  Both machines are running SQL 2008  32 bit and are both Windows 2008 servers.  When I attempt to back the database up using the SQL tools and restore the .BAK file to the new SQL server, I get the following error:

Restore failed for Server “servername” (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Additional Information:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: RESTORE detected an error on page (44:2097184) in database “RestoreDBName” as read from the backup set.

Likewise when I attempt to simply copy the .MDF and .LDF files to the new server and attach them, I get the following error:

Attach database failed for Server “servername”
Additional Information:
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
A system assertion check has failed.  Typically an assertion failure is caused by a software bug or data corruption.  To check for database corruption, consider running DBCC CHECKDB.  If you agreed to send dumps to Microsoft during setup, a mini dump will be sent to Microsoft.  An update might be a vailable from Microsoft in the latest Service Pack or in a QFE from Technical Support.
Could not open new database ‘NewDatabaseName”  Create DATABASE is aborted.
Location: “logmgr.cpp”:3277
Expression: lfh->lfh_startOffset==startOffset
SPID:55
Process ID: 292876 (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3624)

From everything I’ve read, these errors generally indicate some sort of database corruption.  However when I run DBCC CHECKDB on the database on the source server, it comes up perfectly clean... no corruption detected.  In fact, this server hosts 8 different databases.  All DB’s check out okay on the source server, however none of them will restore to a new server using either of the above methods.  I’m having a hard time believing all of them could be corrupt when they show absolutely no indication of a problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

AC Power Adapter Type Cannot Be Determined

So.. I see this problem has been posted about before, so I just wanna know what my options are.

This problem actually popped up on me a few months ago, but I was able to remove and insert the power cord a few times and the message would go away and I would be able to charge my battery. But as a month or two passed, it became more finicky, and I had to jiggle with it a little more, but still, I was able to charge my battery and use my laptop wire-free.

Now today, I've been trying all day, and cannot for the life of me get the battery to charge. I get the following message when I plug the wire in.

"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."

Also, I think its worth nothing that a lot of people mention that this error message comes up while they are booting their Laptops, mine only comes up once Vista is loaded and I attempt to reinsert the cord.

So, I have tried another Dell charger, a 90W one, and the same problem does occur (My original is a 65W). I am planning on getting a different battery tomorrow to see if it is the battery, as this ones usable life was getting quite low, down to barely a half hour per full charge. My warranty, although I'm not sure of the specifics, was not expired when this problem first came up, but is now expired by I would say 2 months at the most.

Oh, I have a M1330, and I have gotten a lot of use out of this laptop, and I was hoping to use this for school beginning in  mid January. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions about what I should do? As I said I am a student, so the more cost-friendly the better. Thanks a lot

Alienware 14 Help setting up RAID

A customer brought me their Alienware 14 laptop because the hard drive died. A new one is on it's way and I've been researching how to set it up by factory. My only problem is, when testing with random drives at home, I cannot access the RAID configuration. I've tried pressing Ctrl+i several times and nothing happens. As far as I can tell the only hard drive in the machine is just the basic standard SATA.

They want RAID back but if I cannot access the configuration for it, how can I give it to them?

Any help appreciated.

Screen Replacement

Hello! I recently dropped something on my Dell Inspiron 15 Touch's screen and the LCD got destroyed. Now, when it turns on (usually the screen doesn't turn on), it is a mixture of white and black. I would like to replace the LCD and have the touchscreen work as well. The touchscreen actually DOES still work, and the screen is smooth to the touch. I went to this link---  But I think it is only the front, with no LCD. Please help! Thanks!!

How to rescue files from RAW file system external hard disk without losing files?

What you guys often do to resolve external hard disk RAW file system asking to format error? Recently, my Seagate USB hard disk, which holds many of my important dell PC photos, documents, videos and some files, gets RAW file system error. My Windows 7 computer cannot read it and only tells me to format it before any access. But, I am really afraid the formatting will erase everything stored inside. So, in order to take the original data out as soon as possible, I search the related topic and find RAW file system external drive recovery software can help me to recover them back. And many web friends recommend me to try some related data recovery software, like http://www.piriform.com/recuva or http://www.icare-recovery.com/howto/external-hard-drive-raw-format-asking-to-reformat.html

But, I am not sure whether it is proper for me. How do you think about it? Please help me somehow!

I own the touchscreen variant of the laptop dell 15r 5521, and via online forms I came to know it should have and and Intel HD graphics hybrid, but as per CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and the fact that the amd drivers fail to install leads to the conclusion that the laptop lacks and graphics, which is a huge let down since hardly any game run on this computer.

So, my question is, can I get the amd graphics somehow, or attach a graphics card to my laptop ?

Dell Latitude D630 usable ram? After upgrade?

This refurb system I really like.  But I upgraded the ram to 4 gb and the system recognizes 4 gb.  But, it says only 1 gb is "available."  Why?  Is there a way to improve the amount of ram available?

I love the keyboard on this little system, my granddaughter is using for homeschooling.

Thanks.

T5400 single bit memory error

Hello,

I have T5400 running X5460 with 8GB ram which I recently upgraded to 24GB. 6x4GB HYNIX same series. During startup it gives me error "Single bit memory error on dim 3 or 4..." Problem is that error message is not always displayed. I executed bios diagnostics tool[all tests] which took about 4hours and all tests were passed. After test - restart - error message again. Today hard reset - no error message. I also switched memory chips slot 6 with 4 which helped for two days.
I'm bit puzzled what is wrong and how to fix it ?

Dell Inspiron 15 3531 HDD Failure

Hi guys,

I'm a bit stuck with what to do here. I've had the laptop above for a while, I upgraded to Win10 recently and it slowed right down to a crawl, then just wouldn't boot at all. I've tried every recovery guide I can think of, it just won't boot even into the recovery. The furthest i've managed to get is ':( oops there's been a problemw ith your PC' or something, but usually it just hangs on 'Preparing for automatic recovery'

I ran a diagnostics check through tapping F12 on boot, and it says 'Error code 2000-0151 Smart recovery failure' - After running a google search, apparently this is a completely fried HDD.

I'm happy enough to replace, but I'm just a bit uncertain what to do. I'm pretty sure I'm out of Dell warranty, I have no proof of purchase (lost in house move) and no recovery stuff (also lost in house move)

I tried using an old version of Window 7 I had from an OEM machine from a while back, but this gives me a bluescreen error (something about my machine not being ACHP compliant or soemthing)

I'm just a bit worried that I'm going to shell out to buy a new hard drive and it's still not going to work, would I just be able to install my OEM win 7 on it? or would I need to buy some sort of OS recovery disk from Dell? I've heard the registry key is hard coded into my machine, I'm not exaclty made of money right now and can't afford to buy much else.

Thanks in advance

Inspiron N5110 - results of SSD upgrade

$

Hi all.

Not a discussion as such, but a post to help others out who may be thinking of upgrading the HDD in their N5110 to an SSD.

My original system details

  • Inspiron N5110
  • i5-2410M 2.30GHz
  • 8GB RAM (upgraded from 4GB)
  • Nvidia GeForce GT 520M
  • 500GB 5200rpm HDD

How I went about it

I decided to buy a 500GB Samsung 850 EVO to replace the standard hdd. The drive arrived with a CD containing the Samsung migration tool and Samsung Magician. I also bought a eSATA cable to do the data migration.

I conected the new drive to the eSATA port and tried to use the migration tool. I had to transfer 370GB from the old disk to the new, after 2 hours, the tool reported that it would take a further 8 hours to complete the migration! I gave up on that, and followed the instructions here using Clonezilla. The whole migration then took only 1.5 hours. I ignored the tweaks at the bottom, the Samsung Magician software takes care of that for you.

Once the drive cloning was complete, I followed this YouTube video to disassemble the laptop, and replace the HDD with the new SSD. Once reassembled he laptop booted flawlessly :)

The original drive is SATA2 (3GB/s), but the motherboard supports SATA3 (6GB/s) so you will get the best performance out of the new SSD. Bear in mind, that both the connector for the DVD drive and the eSATA connector only support SATA2 (and I think the DVD connector does not support AHCI either) so you must install the drive internally in the original slot to get the maximum performance.

Once the laptop booted, I ran the Samsung Magician software. I enabled rapid mode, and set OS Optimization to 'Maximum performance'. I ran a benchmark before and after. I think you can see from the image below what a huge difference it has made!

If anyone has any questions about doing this, I'd be happy to help out if I can. Thanks!

Dell diagnostics produced Error 2000-0142 during self test for HDD.

Hi

For last couple of weeks I'm having trouble with my laptop, e.g. inaccessibility to folders and sudden hangup. So today I ran DELL Diagnostics and it produced error code 2000-0142  (I attached a screenshot of it). I searched the community and learned that this message means that my laptop HDD is failing!! What should I do now?

Thanks in advance.

Upgraded hardware on Inspiron 7559, now stuck in Automatic Repair loop?

So, I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 7559, and decided to upgrade it with another 8GB RAM and a 120GB 850 Evo SSD. Directly after installing these, upon boot I was taken to a white screen reading: "The amount of system memory may have changed" with the options of "Continue" "BIOS Setup" and "Diagnostics". When I continue, I am asked to chose my keyboard layout, and then am taken to a screen with an array of options, such as "Continue", "Troubleshoot", "Use a device", etc. I have tried many of the options and solutions I've found with some googling, but nothing is working. When I continue, I'm taken to a screen with a circular loading animation that reads "Preparing automatic repair...", and then I am taken back to the "Choose your keyboard layout" screen. I've ran the diagnostics, albeit to an extent (I have not completed the second part of the diagnostics reading the memory, which takes 5+ hours), but what was tested was a-okay. I have factory restored, and reset Windows 10. I am pretty certain that this isn't due to faulty hardware with the aftermarket installations I made, as the Samsung SSD and Crucial RAM both came from the manufacturer on Amazon, both products having 5 stars. Anyone have any ideas? UPDATE: I completed the second part of the diagnostics; I passed.

INSPIRON 15--- Remove WIN10 OS and replace with new WIN7

I have a new Inspiron 15 that came with WIN8. I updated to WIN10 and cannot stand that either. I have a new WIN7 OS that I would like to install. How do I uninstall WIN8/10 and install WIN7? There is nothing on the computer that needs to be saved.

Thanks
